MSC certification

The most prominent and best-known label for sustainable fisheries is the label of the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC). The MSC label is recognised by more than half of consumers and seen as proof that a fishery contributes to the conservation of fish stocks worldwide. Would you also like to display the MSC label on your products? Then membership of our MSC group certificate is just the right choice for you.

Consumers increasingly value responsible purchasing and prefer products that demonstrably do not contribute to overfishing and help protect the environment.
Fisheries can obtain MSC certification if they meet the following requirements:

  • The fishery does not contribute to overfishing;
  • The fishery minimises its negative impact on the marine environment;
  • The fishery is well-managed.

Through MSC certification, you provide proof that your fish and seafood is caught sustainably. As part of the MSC assessment, an independent third party verifies that the fish actually comes from a sustainable fishery. After receiving the MSC certificate, you can display the MSC label on your products.

Our group certificate is aimed at small- to medium-sized companies. Organisations that meet at least one of the following criteria are eligible for group certification:

  • annual turnover of less than EUR 2 million; or
  • annual volume of seafood products traded is less than 200.000 kg; or
  • fewer than 50 seafood-business staff (including at peak times); or
  • consumer-oriented organisations (e.g. fish mongers and restaurants).
